My Mayor’s Pyromania

The mayor of my town would rather burn down buildings than provide funding for an Independence Day fireworks display.

Maybe I should get a better policy for my homeowner’s insurance, now?

Selling On Craigslist

I’ve never actually used Craigslist to sell anything until now, although I have used the site to search for writing jobs, with pretty good results.

Anyway, we have an electric scooter / wheelchair that was bought about 5 years ago, and only used about six times. The chair has been just “sitting” there, for about a year, now, and is no longer needed, so I decided to throw it up on Craigslist to see what happens. It looks like the ad will run for 45 days, and I didn’t have to pay “anything” to post it.

Here’s the listing for the electric scooter.

I know that there are some cities that have to pay a certain amount for posting things in certain categories, there, but luckily, I’m not in one of those larger cities. I also don’t live in a place where everybody has two computers and visits Craigslist, daily, so it’ll be interesting to see what kind of results I get.

63.5 Percent?

Pretty funny misprint that I picked up from an AP story. Not sure if the AP misprinted it, or the KXMD News web site. Maybe that’s the way Gene Laducer “said” it. Hard to say. It’s almost a “non-story”, in itself, because we all knew that we’re paying more for gas, these days.

“(AP) _ Triple-A of North Dakota is expecting a record number of drivers to hit the road over the next four days, in keeping with trends around the country.

Spokesman Gene Laducer says and estimated 63-and-one-half Americans are expected to travel 50 miles or more this holiday season.

And they’ll be paying more at the pump.

Laducer says North Dakotans are paying an average of $2.25 a gallon for gasoline this holiday season. That’s up from $1.82 a gallon last year.

He says prices are about 40 percent higher nationwide.”

“63-and-one-half Americans”. That’s all, huh? Honestly, I don’t even feel that the half-person should be traveling.

I’ve Only Done This Once

Maybe some of you have done this more often that I have, but I’ve only played “ding-dong ditching” once in my life, way back in my younger days. If you haven’t heard of it, basicly, it’s where you go up to somebody’s front door, ring the doorbell (or knock), then duck into the bushes and watch the person who answers the door get a little upset.

Well, my last post was titled “Opening Doors…”, and it seems that I was the one who ended up a little upset. Of course, this only happened figuratively, and nobody literally ducked into the bushes. I will say that I was a little relieved that I didn’t have to worry about making a quick purchase of a DV camera (although I did find a pretty good one), and also that I didn’t have to spend that much time out in the freezing temperatures.

It turns out, though, that after only a day-and-a-half, the Jamestown, ND fire investigators decided to determine the cause of the fire as “undetermined”. I can understand that the fire caused a major amount of damage, and made the investigation almost impossible. There are going to be many different theories about the cause of the fire, though, and I hope that the insurance investigators decide to continue it, and come up with some answers. I’d also like to say that if “Mr. R” decides to continue the investigation, and contacts me, that I would still be interested.

Even as the fire was burning, I thought to myself how hard it might be to find the cause of this fire. With a lot of the clues that lead to the cause, literally “gone”, there may not be a way, and we’ll continue to speculate, forever.

Selling Insurance?

It almost sounds like Seth is working for Allstate, now.

He does make a good point about some of the absurd choices that human nature makes us believe, though. The recent push by the “Anti-Tobacco Coalition” in our city brought this point out into the open. They don’t want to breathe any second-hand smoke, while they go out and kill some brain cells, drinking. What’s more, is they want to keep the people that are smoking outside, at least 100 feet from the entrance, so when they leave the bar after 5 or 8 drinks to get behind the wheel, they don’t have to walk through a cloud of smoke.

They can weave down the road knowing that they won’t be dying of lung cancer. …but wait…what is this?

The cancer rate in alcoholics is ten times higher than that in the general population.

What am I afraid of, Seth? Well, there’s a big reason why I can smoke while I’m driving, but I can’t drink while I’m driving. I’m still afraid of those “second-hand collisions” with people heading home from their “smokeless bars”.

Jamestown North Dakota Fire Video

I didn’t expect to be making such a lagre video, but these kinds of things happen when you least expect them. I have a lot of the details at Webfeed Central, but here are the links to the videos:

Medium Quality (42.5Mb)

High Quality (142.5Mb)

ADDED: The 18 minute movie was actually bits a pieces of separate movies that I patched together. Overall, the time span that was shown in the movie covered from about 2:30am to just after 4:30am. For a while, it didn’t seem like they were making any progress.
